Week 12 Story: The Tale of O'Reilly

Image
There once was a man named O'Reilly who lived in the town of Apollonia with his wife, Meredith. They were living in the poorest section of the town and had spent days and nights wishing that money would fall into their lap. One morning before going to work, O'Reilly had awakened to the sound of a thud on the front door. O'Reilly then slid out of bed to see who or what has arrived on his porch and found an eviction notice before he could open the locks on the door. Meredith follows behind him asking O'Reilly what he is holding and he tells her about them needing to come up with money within a certain amount of days otherwise they will be put on the streets. "What are we going to do? It is almost time for winter and we cannot be without a place to stay," said Meredith. "I know, I know my dear. Hopefully, Mr. O'Boyle will be generous enough to grant me a raise for my birthday since I have been helping him around the shop for quite a spell," said

Reading Notes: Celtic Tales Part B

Image
For my B section of reading notes, I chose to read about a few stories that have caught my interest. In the tale,  The Tale of Ivan  by Joseph Jacobs, a man and a woman live in the town of Llanlavan and are impoverished. Ivan begins to go find work so that they can live comfortably and comes across an elder who alerts him that he has a piece of advice instead of wages to give to Ivan. The master in the story acts as a prophet because he constantly tells Ivan advice that Ivan should greatly consider. A part in the story I liked is when the master told Ivan about the cake his wife made and instructed him to cut the cake when he is the most joyous and not a minute sooner. After he leaves the elder's house, Ivan then encounters a series of mishaps and events that create chaos throughout the day and when the hectic events finally settle, Ivan returns home to his wife as happy as he can be and then cuts open the cake to find the wages he had been asking for. Reading Notes: Celtic Fairy Tales Part A

Image
For my reading notes, I examined the Celtic chapter of the unit and was astonished by the stories that were posted. I thought it was quite different from the previous units we studied so I carefully selected a few books in the chapter that caught my interest. The stories in the unit are written by Joseph Jacobs. The Shepherd of Myddvai This story starts out with a man in search of love and decides to visit a lake in his town. At this lake, he encounters three sisters who were very beautiful. He then had personal encounters with each of the three sisters. He had brought them bread but each made out of different textures and eventually, the last sister accepted the bread that the man had brought them.  I think this story is one that I could incorporate into my own adaptation because the elements that are mentioned in the story are mixed with humor and, in a sense, tragedy because the sister eventually leaves the man after giving him three chances not to lay a hand on her. Learning Challenge: Deskercises Pt. 2

Image
Deskercises  This week I decided to do more Deskercises because I have been doing a lot of work at my desk so to keep my legs and joints from locking up I decided to do more wall sits, active arm stretches, and shadow boxing. These exercises really helped me not experience the usual tightness I feel in my body when I sit for long periods of time typing.

Growth Mindset

For my Growth Mindset post, I had watched a video titled  The Surprising Habits of Original Thinkers . In the video, Adam Grant talks about how there can be a plus side to procrastination which threw me for a loop because procrastination is associated with laziness. There was something he mentioned in the video about being productive while procrastinating. He said to try to think of productive ideas or let them come to you while you are procrastinating. Usually, I am a big procrastinator so I decided that I will try to implement his technique the next time I procrastinate. He also mentions fear in the video and how original thinkers should not be so consumed about letting mistakes they have made affect their future. Famous Last Words: Successful Week

Image
For my Famous Last Words of the week, I made a checklist of the events that transpired throughout the week. Monday: I had attended Music Class and had recorded notes for our upcoming test/project for the remainder of the semester. I had gone to Statistics and had also taken notes along with anxiously waiting for the grade back on my second midterm. I had started taking notes on the unit required to examine this week and formulated a plan for how I wanted to write my story. Tuesday: I had gone to the gym and continued typing up notes for my story. I went to my Capstone class and worked on a project. Wednesday: Same as Monday in my Music Class I had received news on my second midterm exam: I had scored a 100 on my Stats exam. I then started to write my story. Thursday: Gym I had attended a workshop for my music class that centered on African Dance and Music. I had finished writing my story of the week. Friday-Sunday: I had stayed inside and watched

Tech Tip: Word Count

For my Tech Tip this week, I decided to toy with the Word Count for Chrome. I found it to be slightly difficult to navigate rather than the word press word counter we use for this class. Aside from that, I think it was still a helpful tool to use. I always find myself having trouble meeting the minimum number of words required or overtyping so having two word counters would be useful.
