Introduction to a Social Introvert
Hi, My name is Charlton Nwaefulu and I am a senior here at the University of Oklahoma and will be graduating in December. I am from Mansfield, TX and i transferred to this school in the Fall of 2015. I am an Economics major/MIS minor and a cool thing about my major is that it is versatile so i could literally work in a lot of fields without having to attain a specific degree. I didn't really have a favorite class from last semester due to the workload/scheduling but if i had to choose then i would say that a class that i liked the most then it would have to be Economics of Discrimination because it broke down the economics of topics such as marriage and earnings and the costs of getting married and divorce. We also talked about wages and earnings between men and women regarding race.
My biggest accomplishment from last year was that i was able to pass my classes because i was in 3 Economic electives for my major and an MIS class so juggling the workload was not easy and there were time where i wanted to drop but i stuck it out and ended up receiving good grades as fate would have it. For summer break i had interned in Dallas for a company called Penn Mutual. I had interned at their Texas division and it was a great experience working with another intern and the employees who were already working there and helping them put together events to enable the company to attract more financial advisers to get contracted with the company.
I have a lot of favorite movies and shows that i watch because i am a little bit of a homebody now. Some movies include Scarface, Goodfellas, Blow, Spider-man, and some others. I am really into any movies as long as its either funny or scary. Sometimes ill just watch movies from the late 90s/early 00s. Some TV shows that i like are Power, Atlanta, Snowfall, Chopped, 30 for 30, and a lot of other shows that will take me a long time to list. I do not own any pets but in the future that could change because i will be able to make the choice of whether or not to own a pet when i live in my own house. I like R&B and Rap music mainly but i also listen to some rock music and neo-soul. I like all sorts of foods i don't necessarily have a dislike when it comes to food but i will say that i do not like mushrooms, tomatoes, sauerkraut, and casseroles. Lastly, my goals for the future would be to one day own my own company and just try to inspire as many people as I can to go after their own personal goals and become successful despite the obstacles they might be facing.

Hi Charlton,
ReplyDeleteI'm not entirely sure why, but I just wanted to say that I 100% agree with you about not liking tomatoes (and all the other foods you mentioned but mainly tomatoes). I also think it's really cool that your goals include helping other people overcome obstacles, reach their goals, and become successful. Good luck on your final semester!
That "economics of discrimination" sounds fascinating, Charlton! I never took an economics class in college, but often some of the most interesting reports and reviews that I hear about in the news are about economics. I also read a really great book cowritten by an economist (Sendhil Mullainathan) and a psychologist (Eldar Shafir): Scarcity: The New Science of Having Less and How It Defines Our Lives. Powerful stuff! And I can totally relate to being an introvert: that's probably why I like teaching online so much. I'm very curious about people, but I feel awkward and distracted in a crowd of people. Online, it never feels crowded. I hope you will enjoy connecting with people here at your blog this semester. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Charlton,
ReplyDeleteBecause i read your story about Grahman first, so i am kinda know that you love music. I also surprise that your major are economic /MIS. One important is what you dislike are what i like the most, like tomato and mushroom.
Being a senior major at Finance gives me a sense of how busy you are. But no worry, you can handle it. Good luck for your semester!
Hey Charlton,
ReplyDeleteMy major is MIS too and I love the fact that our major is so versatile. We could almost do anything we want with it which keeps a lot of doors open for us. I know exactly how hard it was for you to take all those classes last year and be able to pass them. Some of those classes are really hard and to take them all together is even harder.
Hi Charlton! I definitely know the feeling of your biggest accomplishment last semester was that you passed! That feels like my biggest accomplishment the past few semesters as I get close to graduation. I'm an LIS major, which is similar and I love how versatile it is as well. Sometimes I wonder exactly what I'm going to do with it because it has so many different components, but that does make it interesting. I've had several Economics courses as I was an Accounting major before transferring to OU, but I did enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteHi Charlton, thats so great for you! I am a senior also but not graduating till spring of 2020. Goodfellas is one of my all time favorites, for me it falls in line with Boondock Saints and My Cousin Vinny. Scary and funny are also my two favorite genres - especially scary because I think it's hard to make a genuinely scary movie without relying on jump scares. On those TV shows I haven't seen any but Atlanta, I'm a big Donald Glover fan because he is so great at everything he does. On your social introvert thing, have you ever heard of ambivert? I learned only recently this term encompasses a person who feels both introverted and extroverted as I do myself. Best of luck to you with your last semester, you sound like you have a great plan in mind for life after graduation!
ReplyDeleteHello Charlton, My name is Devin and I am also a senior here at the University of Oklahoma! I can’t believe that were already so close to graduating, where time flies! I see that you really like movies, I do too! My favorite movies are the marvel movies such as the Avengers! I could watch movies all day everyday if I could.
DeleteHello Charlton!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS FOR GRADUATING IN DECEMBER! I am also a December Grad! I commend you for getting through such a hard semester. As a science major I know all about persevering through a hard semester. You are talking my language when you mentioned liking the TV show Power. This last season was crazy!! I don't think Ghost and Tommy will ever be cool again. Also, do you really think Angela is dead? I don't think she is. She plays to big of a role in Power.
Good luck and finish strong.
Hey Charlton!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being so close to graduating! I am also graduating in December. After reading about your major, I didn't realize how many job opportunities you can have with it. Hopefully that will make finding a job that much easier and not as stressful. I also enjoy watching Chopped when I have some free time. Which is funny, because I actually hate to cook haha! It was nice meeting you!
Hi Charlton! Props to you for majoring in Economics. I remember that was one of the hardest classes I have taken! What is your favorite Spider-man franchise? There have been so many in the past decade that it can get confusing when you’re talking about them! I think that your future plans sound great. Inspiring others and being genuine in hopes for others to become successful is a great quality.
ReplyDeleteHi Charlton! Economics is a really cool field! I've always encountered it through a historical lens rather than studying anything within the field itself, but reading about people like Smith, Malthus, and Keynes were definitely highlights of the history classes I took earlier in my college career. Economic disparity has and is an extremely important issue in life, and it is really neat you are devoting yourself to working on that issue. I also listen to a ton of R&B! I think 6LACK's new album, East Atlanta Love Letter, might have to be the best R&B I've heard so far this year. Who are some of your favorite artists in the genre?
ReplyDeleteHi, Charlton! First off, I have to say that I really like your name! I have never met anybody with that name before. Second, I am really impressed that you chose to major in economics! That is something that I have never been too interested in, so it is always fun to meet people who are interested in things that I am not and to learn about them. I remember watching the older Spider-Man movies with my dad when I was a child, and I really liked them. I do not watch them much anymore, but I do like what Disney is doing with the franchise. I definitely think that your plans for your future are impressive and I find them inspiring! I hope you accomplish all your goals and have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHello Charlton! That's definitely an interesting point on Economics. It is a diverse major which sounds very exciting and convenient. Especially since, like you said, you don't need a specific degree for a particular field. I'm glad that you pushed through and will now be graduating here in a couple months. Congratulations! I also love quite a variety of different foods. Including sauerkraut lol. Nice to meet you and good luck in the future!
ReplyDeleteHello there Charlton! I think that you have a great life aspiration to help people and inspire others. I also love comedy movies and horror based movies! Which horror movie series is your favorite? I've also never heard of neo-soul music before. I'm going to have to look that up because the name is definitely interesting! Good luck on completing the semester out and graduating this December! I also graduate this December so we're in this together.
ReplyDeleteHey Charlton! I also took Economics of Discrimination and it, along with my entire economics education, has changed how I analyze the dynamics between people and things. As an economist, I am prone to assuming that every person is interested in their survival and prosperity so they weigh the cost and the benefits to themselves of every decision they make. Even when I am reading stories for this class, I am always trying to examine the rationality of the decisions that the characters make and that helps me give feedback on other people's stories by being able to tell them what I think does not make sense when analyzing a character's development in a story.
ReplyDeleteHey Charlton! That economics of discrimination sounds really interesting. One of the classes I took last semester was labor economics, and it made me realize how in depth those courses can be, as well as how much psychology and other courses can be linked to economics. I also understand the dislike of tomatoes. Is it all tomato products, or just the raw tomatoes? I can't stand the texture of raw tomatoes, but I love salsa, ketchup, almost anything tomato-based, just not the tomatoes themselves. Good luck finishing your last semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Charlton! Congrats on graduating in December! It is really cool that your major is so versatile because you are giving yourself so many options to pursue after graduation! My favorite movie genres are also horror and comedies! I love having an all day scary movie marathon on Friday the 13th or around Halloween time! What kind of company do you want to have? I look forward to reading your stories throughout the semester!
ReplyDeleteHello, Charlton!
ReplyDeleteI want to applaud you for not giving up last semester when thing got chaotic. I understand how stressful that can be, I was in twenty hours last semester and I thought I was going to lose my mind, but accomplishing such a hard schedule is very satisfying! I too have a long list of movies and shows that I watch because I am also a homebody. I prefer scary psychological thrillers. Some of my favorites include Silence of the Lambs (which I am just starting the book) and Jacob's Ladder!
I look forward to reading more of your stories. Good luck with your final semester and future endeavors!

DeleteHi Charlton! I used to be in the college of business before I switched majors, so I know that it’s a difficult place to be in! It’s so exciting that you’re graduating so soon, and I think it is really cool that you want to own your own company someday, you totally got this! I totally understand what you said about being a homebody now, I love laying in bed and watching hulu or netflix. Good luck with graduation!
ReplyDeleteHi Charlton, I am also a business major so I can understand your struggle with juggling those classes. I have definitely had some rough semesters because of the workload or the material in the courses themselves. It is exciting that you are a senior, though, so you will be graduating soon. Have a good rest of your semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Charlton!
ReplyDeleteI am also a business major graduating in December! I know how stressful the business classes can get during the semester. Especially your major classes when they can all seem to blend together! Congrats on your previous internship! Good luck on the rest of the semester and congrats on graduating!
I forgot to mention that I also love the show Chopped! Such a good show!
DeleteHi Charlton! Congrats on graduating soon. That's really exciting! I just decided to minor in business, and I am a little nervous about the rigorous courses so hopefully I can juggle them as well as you! You internship sounded exciting. I hope it helps build a bridge to a bright future. It sounds like you have an exciting road ahead of you and I wish you luck!
ReplyDeleteHey Charlton!
ReplyDeleteYour area of study seems to be very versatile indeed! I'm a little bit of a social introvert myself so I can totally understand where you're coming from with the homebody thing. I'd much rather prefer the company of my roomates and computer games compared to going out for drinks. My sister got her degree in MIS and ended up working for a ski company in Colorado which eventually sparked my passion for winter sports. Maybe you'll have the opportunity to work somewhere with a beautiful view as well! Another perk of her jobs has been having the ability to work from home, which you may appreciate. Best of luck this semester!
Hey Charlton, I am a big fan of some of the movies you mentioned like Scarface and Goodfellas. If you have not already, you should check out some of the other great gangster movies like Casino, The Godfather, or even the Ocean’s 11 series. Oddly enough my dad also doesn’t like tomatoes, but I absolutely love tomatoes so I suppose I’ll never quite understand that haha. Best of luck to you as you finish up school!
ReplyDeleteHi Charlton! First of all, your goal that you listed at the end really is fantastic. Motivating others to not only find their potential but to also trust in it is huge. As for the classes you are taking, you should be beyond proud. Coming from someone's whose brain is not quite wired that way, it is quite impressive to seek education in such a tough field. Also, your choice of music and tv shows really is telling on your open perspective to the world. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteHi Charlton! Congratulations on being ready to graduate! You must be so excited. I personally am not one for economics, but it sounds like you really enjoy it and that's what's important. I wish you the best of luck in getting a house, and subsequently a pet, in your future. I've always wanted to fur baby, but my dad is allergic to dogs and I am highly allergic to cats. We do have a fish tank though!
