Week 4 Story: Dezus and His Friends
There once was a boy named Dezus who was in line to be King
He's known for his generosity and wisdom that is beyond his years
He also has a unique group of friends
These friends are what trigger a human being's fears.
These weren't any ordinary group of friends, these were rather ferocious beasts
Human flesh and other animals were often served as the main dish of their feasts.
These animals were among the cream of the crop of the food chain and are very rough
Only strong-minded and physically gifted creatures like these survive conditions that are tough
Lions, Tigers, Bears, Snakes, Cheetahs, Wolves, and Foxes that were not to be ignored
Many of the townspeople had greatly feared them because it was only Dezus that the animals adored
One day while on a stroll, Dezus noticed something very odd about the loyal and obedient Snake
The massive snake, in turn, had warned Dezus about an unfortunate situation that was at stake
"I have failed you my dear friend" uttered the snake as he told Dezus who is still in the dark
"I have stolen the sacred pearls of the land and sold them to the unruly and evil King, Clark"
"How can we get them back from the evil King and return them back to the Land?" Dezus asked
"We will have to travel through stormy rivers and trudge through the warm sand" Snake replied
Dezus and snake began their journey to the kingdom to tie up some loose ends
But they did not go alone but they called upon their group of faithful feline friends
They finally approach the evil kingdom where Clark and his faithful army of trustees reside
Determined to get the pearls back, Dezus assured his friends that it will be his rules that the king should abide
Inside the palace, Dezus and friends approach Clark and his evil group of trustees
Hoping they will hear out their competent grievances and reasonable pleas
"Your Highness, we come here in peace. I would like to request the pearls to be given back to me" Dezus requested
"Your dearest serpent sidekick sold me the pearls at my request, the pearls do not belong to thee" Clark shouted.
"Sire, I have done a terrible mistake, what must I do to attain the land's sacred jewel?" Snake cried.
"For you to attain the sacred pearls, your friends and my trustees must engage in a duel" Clark said.
Dezus and friends dueled with the trustees until the sands in the hourglass had run its course
The friends had obtained the sacred pearls whether through fire or by force
The King had accepted defeat and admire the integrity Dezus and friends had possessed
It was something that a king as evil as Clark can be would not want to have to be confessed
Dezus and his friends left the kingdom with honor and the pearls within their clutches
Returning back to the land with the pearls to the citizens cheering and celebrating
As the snake places the gem back into the golden case
The land will no more have to deal with heated arguments and nonstop debating.
Author's Notes: My Story is inspired by the Saints and Animals catalog in the Classical unit, in particular, Saint Blaise and his beasts. I made Dezus as the main protagonist (Saint Blaise) and the King as the antagonist (The Governor) I wanted to show that Dezus has an effect on these animals just like Saint Blaise. I did not go too in-depth into the other animals but rather the snake because a snake is known for backstabbing an attacking people when least expected but in this case the snake stole the sacred pearls leaving Dezus betrayed but after evoking human emotions into the snake just like the Wolf after he stole the pig in Saint Blaise, I made the snake gain Dezus's trust back.

Hey Charlton!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I greatly enjoyed about your story was the way you described Dezus' friends. You could definitely tell that these were creatures that weren't to be trifled with. Something I did wonder greatly about though, is why the snake sold the sacred pearls. The story does well to describe the events other than the actual sale of the pearls, but I was just curious about this part. What led the snake to steal the pearls, and then to sell them on top of it? Also, one thing I would like to ask is what if you changed up the rhyming scheme a little bit? There were parts to the rhymes where I would have to go back and read again, just to make sure I understood the rhyming scheme. Or alternatively, maybe shortening the lines would have helped the rhyme flow a bit more! Just a thought, but overall I enjoyed your story!
Hello Charlton,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your story! I would like to first say you made the story very easy to understand. You begin with talking about the friends/beasts and you describe them in detail. I think it is important to always describe in detail because you want your audience to understand your story completely. Your Authors Note also helped me understand the character a little bit more.
Hello Charlton, I really enjoyed reading your version of the story. I have not read any other story that was created into a poem yet, so I thought that your story was very fun and unique. having in a poem style made it really easy to read and flowed really well also. Overall I thought it was a great read, keep up the good work!
