Reading Notes: Apache Part B

For the B side of this unit, I decided to focus on a couple of stories that I think could make an interesting story for this week. Part B, in my opinion, had just amount of nuggets I needed to make the perfect story so it was kind of hard deciding what to write about. One thing I noticed is that this part deals with the animal Coyote in each story except a few.

Coyote and the Mexicans

  • I found this story to be confusing in a sense but hilarious because the character of Coyote gets himself into some misadventures and then eventually gets caught by Mexicans I assume.
  • The story begins with a mischevious character name Coyote who is caught lying and gets kidnapped by a group of people and then taken to California.
  • A judge then thinks he is staying the night with a woman and ends up being bitten by Coyote and then Coyote then Coyote runs away with the bag of money.
  • That and the part where the Mexicans catch Coyote, whom at this point is drunk, is what is my favorite part about the story. The comedy aspect of the story is what instantly drew me into the story.
  • Currently, I am stuck between this story and the first story I read in part A because they both have the elements I am looking for.
  • The characters in this story are a plus. If I were to do a story I would potentially add onto the ending and try to make it seem like there will be a duel between the Judge and Coyote.

Coyote Kills the Prairie Dogs:
  • This story is a lot less colorful than the story above. In this story, Coyote is cooking a bunch of Prairie Dogs in a big pot somewhere in the woods.
  • He cooks the prairie dogs and goes to sleep. While asleep, a wildcat came through and took the biggest prairie dogs he could find in the pot and leaves the smallest dog in the pot.
  • The characters in the story seem so simplistic. There is only one character (Coyote) and a minor character (Wildcat)
  • I could make this into a story with the option to carry on the main story but ill consider it.
