Reading Notes: Marriage Tales Part A

This week, I decided to explore a different chapter within the unit. This week I decided to visit the Marriage chapter and found some interesting stories that presented me with some good material to write this week's story. I am thinking of choosing one of these stories and tailoring it to fit my own standards.

The Woman Stolen by Killer Whales:

  • This story takes place on some kind of beach. A man is fishing with his wife and just going on about his day.
  • The story then takes a drastic turn when the man hooks and catches what he thinks is a halibut fish. After using certain materials to enable himself to wheel in the fish, he gets the killer whale onto shore and has his wife cut it up.
  • When the wife finishes, she goes to the water to wash her hands and gets dragged into the water by killer whales. The husband then enlists the help of fish to get back his wife and when he does, chaos occurs. 
  • This is the leading choice that I am leaning towards in writing the story. My story could be about two teens throwing harmful things into an ocean which leads to one of them getting dragged into the water by a creature and thus leads to a battle with an unexpected ending.

The Fox-Woman:

  • The main character is doing well for himself and did everything a dutiful wife should do.
  • The way his house is set up is described to be some sort of igloo because anyone can easily enter.
  • He seems to think a fox is in his house but he is quite mistaken when he enters and finds an attractive woman instead.
  • I think I could work with this story and turn it into some kind of comedy surrounding what happens when the man and woman encounter each other.
  • The man and woman live with each other for some time. With that dynamic, I could maybe turn it into a typical fight between the two and living space. That is something I considered.

Week 12 Story: The Tale of O'Reilly

There once was a man named O'Reilly who lived in the town of Apollonia with his wife, Meredith. They were living in the poorest section of the town and had spent days and nights wishing that money would fall into their lap. One morning before going to work, O'Reilly had awakened to the sound of a thud on the front door. O'Reilly then slid out of bed to see who or what has arrived on his porch and found an eviction notice before he could open the locks on the door. Meredith follows behind him asking O'Reilly what he is holding and he tells her about them needing to come up with money within a certain amount of days otherwise they will be put on the streets. "What are we going to do? It is almost time for winter and we cannot be without a place to stay," said Meredith. "I know, I know my dear.
