Week 11 Story: Dueling Deer
Timothy and his wife, Alexandria, went deer hunting in the forest and were on the prowl for a distinctive deer that is known around town as one of the hardest deer to catch. Timothy made it a must that he should catch this dear and present it to all of the townspeople and win over their approval.
The two had reached a creek called Lapase which is a notorious spot for deers to hang around and drink water. Timothy and Alexandria get ready to ambush the deers while they are surrounding the creek. Timothy aligns the scope on his hunting rifle with his eyes to make sure he does not miss. Alexandria is behind him ready with the hunting knife for when they take down the deer and want to cut up the slain deer to put in the cooler. Timothy pulls the trigger and a loud bang follows making all of the deers that were huddled around the creek scatter around the place in despair.
When Timothy spots the deer that he hit, he goes up to the deer and examines the size of the deer that he hit. Astonished, he looks up and tells Alexandria that he has finally captured the legendary deer. The two begin to celebrate and ponder how they will tell the townspeople about this historic feat. Timothy then signals for Alexandria to bring the cooler so that they can pack the dead animal into the cooler.

Alexandria makes her way to the car trunk to get the cooler while Timothy begins slicing up the deer anxiously. Timothy also begins to make his way to the car when he encounters a ferocious deer with huge antlers begin to attack Alexandria along with a couple of deers surrounding her. Timothy races back to the spot where he laid his rifle to retrieve the gun but had to watch as they carried Alexandria away to an unknown location. Frantic and upset, Timothy then sets a plan to get back his wife and bring back the historic deer's head. He begins to enlist help from some of the rangers that were nearby.
They all huddle into the Jeep and follow the tracks that were made from the group of deers all the way to a secluded part of the woods where they saw Alexandria being toyed with. Timothy hops out of the car and cocks his gun to get the attention of the group of deers. The deers take their focus off of Alexandria and focus their attention on Timothy. After a brief stare down between Timothy and the deers, the two deers that were next to the historic deer began to charge at Timothy but were met with bullets between their eyes from the rangers who came with Timothy. The stare down between historic deer and Timothy began; the two of them locking eyes and Timothy with his rifle in hand. Alexandria then hurries back over to Timothy and the gang instructing him to take the shot. Realizing he has a clear shot, Timothy all of a sudden spares the deer and slowly gets into the jeep with the others and drives off.
The crew then begins to question and hassle Timothy about why he did not take the shot but their scowling ofTimothy's actions are put on hold when they notice another group of deer chasing quickly after the car with historic deer leading the charge. The chase is on.
Author's Note: This story is loosely based on the story I read this week called The Woman Stolen by Killer Whales by Stith Thompson. In the story, A man and his wife were fishing when the man caught what he thought to be a huge halibut fish but instead turns out to be a killer whale. After the wife slices up the whale they caught, she goes to the ocean to wash her hands and is captured and taken under the sea by friends of the killer whale the couple captured and killed. In my story, I had the characters, Timothy and Alexandria, portray the couple in the story but with a different setting. The ending of the story is what I changed because in the story one of the characters that helped get the man's wife back is fighting for his life. In my story, not only does Timothy successfully retrieve his wife but he also spares the life of the deer which in turn leads to his and the others' lives to be in danger.
Hello Charlton, I thought your story was really great! I really like how you changed it to hunting deer instead of whales, which gave it a more relatable feel to the story. I thought you wrote the story really well, and that everything flow together nicely. Overall I would say that the story was really great and I can’t wait to see what you have coming next!
ReplyDeleteHi Charlton, while I have not read the original story, I thought you story was very well written and that your author's note was informative enough for me to understand where you got your ideas from. I think you changing it to hunting deer rather than hunting whales gave it a more modern feel, as in Oklahoma that is something we are all more familiar with. Keep up the good work!
